I-80 UPDATES
New I-80 Traffic Pattern
In early October 2022, the eastbound I-80 travel lanes between 1300 East and 2300 East in Salt Lake City were moved onto new concrete pavement. The westbound I-80 travel lanes in this section were shifted to the median. These traffic shifts will give the team space to reconstruct westbound I-80 while keeping traffic moving. Traffic will remain shifted in this pattern through summer 2023.
These traffic shifts are part of the project's third phase of work on I-80. This phase includes reconstructing westbound I-80 between 1300 East and 2300 East. Crews completed the second phase of work in September 2022, which included the reconstruction of eastbound I-80 within the project limits.
Drivers can expect uneven pavement and drainage grates in the travel lanes. They should use caution in the work zone. To see real-time traffic conditions, visit UDOT Traffic.
While this work occurs, construction vehicles will frequently enter and exit the work zone from I-80 and I-215. Follow the reduced speed limit and give drivers plenty of room.

Reduced Speed Limit
To accommodate a safer work zone, the speed limit on I-80 between 1300 East and 2300 East and I-215 from 3300 South to 4500 South has been reduced to 55 miles per hour. The speed limit will remain at 55 miles per hour through the end of construction.
Regular Lane Closures
Drivers should anticipate regular overnight and weekend lane closures on I-80. To see real-time traffic conditions, visit UDOT Traffic.
